How Stool Softeners Work

When your digestive system is not working properly there is not enough fluid to keep the stool from being dry and hard. Stool softeners are a substance that helps draw water back into the stool making it easier to pass. They do not make you go, they soften your stool so it is easier to go. Stool softeners are a type of laxative that requires you to drink lots of fluids in order for them to work properly.
