Definitely listen to Kittysue’s answer….she knows what she is talking about!
Also, learn about the industry so you don’t get scammed: http://www.newmodels.com & http://www.exploremodeling.com.
Back then, they would only accept certain types of models, but now a day anyone is eligilable for modeling if you have what the agency require. You can look in you local newspaper in the job search section, they usually have a lot of modeling careers.
I was watching Tyra bank’s show one time and she said that you shouldn’t have to pay a dime for modeling. The agency who hire you should pay for everything, if you have to spend money to be a model, it’s a scam.
I found a modeling ad in the paper one time and they were looking for 5feet 3inches or higher and wears size 9 pants. I think they were advertising for model who can wear their clothing lines.
It dont hurt to try, you never know if they are looking for you.
At 5′3" you will be limited to swimwear, lingerie or commercial print modeling. Some of the big commercial agencies are FFT, Rick Miller and Lauren Green in NYC. Outside of NY and LA there is very little work for commercial models as that’s where most national ad campaigns are shot. Don’t worry about your age - the most successful commercial models are age 25-35. Commercial models are the models who appear in ads for consumer products ranging from orange juice to cat food to cell phones to cough medicine. Anyone you see in an ad for anything but fashion items is a commercial model.
