Medical scrubs are worn by almost the entire medical workforce, or whosoever needs to interact with patients; not just surgeons. Till the early 20th century, surgeons and other medical personnel wore regular clothes while performing surgeries. The middle of the 1900s saw the introduction of surgical clothing for the purpose of protecting surgeons from infection.
